Year-round — Olhao's market and ferry operate throughout the year. Summer (June-September) for island beaches. Spring/Autumn for quieter ferries and the best seafood markets. December for the famous Olhao Christmas Market.
Insider tip: Arrive at the Municipal Market by 8:30 am (opens at 7 am) for the best selection. Buy fresh oysters at the waterfront stalls (€6 for a dozen) and eat them watching the fishing boats come in. For the islands, take the 9:30 am ferry to avoid the 11 am tourist rush.
